Welcome to NJDC Arizona

NJDC Arizona is the official Arizona Chapter of the National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC). Founded in 1990, NJDC is the national voice of Jewish Democrats. Informed by our commitment to those values shared by the Democratic Party and the vast majority of American Jews - including the separation of church and state, a strong US-Israel relationship, and reproductive freedom -- NJDC serves as a liason between the Democratic Party and the Jewish Community.  We advocate for Jewish values and priorities within the Democratic Party and educate Jewish voters about the real differences between Democratic and Republican candidates for office.

A Message from Our President

The times we live in have become perilous and fraught with hazards our parents could never imagine.  For Jews, the present atmosphere is uncomfortable.  The existence of Israel has never been more in jeopardy than now.  Even at its founding, the Jewish homeland has never been in more danger than with its Muslim neighbors threatening a nuclear holocaust. The policies of the Bush administration have created an imbalance of influence in the Mideast that has resulted in Iran becoming a dominant force in the region.  There is no doubt that the war in Iraq was a horrendous blunder. Our economic interests and the existence of the State of Israel must be considered when withdrawing troops.

Domestically, the systemic incompetence of the Bush administration continues to confound and create problem after problem.  The housing situation is the latest, but not the only one. A president who believes he governs by divine right is not only deluded, but dangerous, since he believes he can do no wrong.

As Jews and Democrats, it is important that we have a say in the next election. The principles of Jewish life and Democratic values have been ignored and derided by the present administration.  That attitude must stop and the government must once again reflect the will of the people and care for its less fortunate.  That is the principle of Tzedakah.

These are just a few of the important reasons for organizing and becoming active in our community. The lack of interest and the neglect of the voter will most certainly lead to another administration that devalues the individual and strips away our rights.  For Jews, that touches a nerve and raises the level of discomfort.

The Arizona Chapter of the National Jewish Democratic Council is a means of making known the interests and issues that pertain to the Jewish community.  Reproductive rights, separation of church and state and support for Israel are a few of the issues.  Local issues such as education, healthcare for those who can’t afford it and a state government that practices compassion and respect for all individuals will be important in the ’08 election. We are organizing and approaching the future with the goal of making a difference.  Educating the Jewish Community on the relevant issues and giving visibility to those issues that are contrary to our interests will be an important activity of  the Council.

Join us so that we can speak with a voice of many. In that way we can make our views known, and the principles of Judaism and Democratic values can be restored.

This craziness we have endured for the last six years must stop!  We can do it.
