March 30, 2006
Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert
Office of the Prime Minister
Jerusalem, IsraelDear Prime Minister Olmert,
On behalf of the National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC), we would like to extend our warm congratulations and best wishes to you upon your great success in yesterday's elections.
As we related to you during our visit with you in Israel last September, the leaders and supporters of the NJDC are committed to doing everything in our power to preserve the longstanding friendship and strategic military alliance between the United States and Israel. We look forward to continuing our work with you and your administration as Israel continues its quest for lasting peace and security.
Once again, this election has shown that among the nations of the Middle East, Israel stands alone in sharing America's democratic ideals. These key democratic underpinnings shared by Israeli and American society stand as a powerful reminder to all Americans that Israel is our closest strategic ally in the region, deserving of our longstanding friendship and our close economic and military ties.
In the wake of the deeply unfortunate victory of Hamas in the recent Palestinian elections, and as Iran and other critical threats to Israel and the U.S. make themselves even more starkly apparent, we know that you will provide the strong leadership necessary to steer Israel through these uncertain times. We at the National Jewish Democratic Council pledge our full cooperation in working to uphold the ever-strengthening relationship between America and Israel.Again, congratulations, and please know that you can count on our unwavering support for the State of Israel throughout your tenure. We look forward to visiting with you again during our next mission to Israel.
Sincerely,
Ambassador Arthur Schechter, National Chairman; Houston, Texas
Michael M. Adler, First Vice-Chair; Miami, Florida
