Clinton and Obama will appear together on Saturday in Unity, New Hampshire; Clinton and Obama split the town 50-50 in the primary. This campaign appearance also marks the beginning of a period of reconciliation that will mend any lingering fractures from the competitive primary season.
Hilary Clinton’s campaign has reported a $22.5 million debt after the primary season, of which $11.4 million Clinton loaned to her campaign. If Clinton does not pay off her debt by the end of the Democratic convention, she will only be able to recoup $250,000.
The Obama campaign cannot directly pay off Clinton’s debt, but Obama has asked his top contributors to help Clinton. Obama hopes that his top donors who have not yet donated to Clinton’s campaign will donate the maximum, $2,300. Obama’s pledge to help repay Clinton’s debt is a goodwill gesture that will not go unseen by her supporters.
