Today, Senator Barack Obama showed that he will be ready to deeply engage in the complex issues of the Middle East from his first day as president. In the context of heightened anticipation and expectations from his critics, and supporters alike, Obama hit a home run. With the entire world watching, Obama showed the poise and expertise to be an international leader and repair our image abroad.
Obama reaffirmed his dedication to Israel’s peace and security and continued his commitment to a strong position when it comes to Iran. In his press conference today, referencing the possibility of Iranian nuclear weapons Obama said that, “Iranians need to understand that whether it’s the Bush administration or an Obama administration, that this is a paramount concern to the United States.” Also in during the conference, Obama said he will use both “big sticks and carrots” and that he “will take no options off the table in dealing with this potential Iranian threat.”
There is no question that Obama hit a home run today. On this trip, Obama has once again showed that he will continue to carry on the bipartisan consensus when it comes to strengthening the U.S.-Israel relationship, combating Iran, and seeking peace in the Middle East.
