Earlier this week, Eve Kessler of The Forward wrote about Virginia Senator George Allen's alleged Jewish roots. Despite Kessler connecting the dots for us, Allen's spokesman refused to comment about what Allen knows or does not know about his mother's past.
On the heels of Kessler's piece, The Plank has added its two cents, posting the following statement from Bob Gibson, a longtime columnist for Charlottesville's Daily Progress.
It's funny, but the only time that George Allen ever wanted a correction from me in 27 years of covering his races was when I wrote about his mother's Jewish family origins. He insisted, through a press secretary, that his mother was raised a Christian.
Gibson's quote may not clear things up, but it certainly raises a whole lot of questions.
Why is Allen being so quiet on the subject? Even more, is he Jewish or not? That is, after all, the million shekel question.
