It's time to add Arkansas' Republican Governor Mike Huckabee to the growing list of Republicans in need of Sensitivity Training 101 for his tasteless comments making light of the travesties of the Holocaust and terrorists taking innocent people hostage.
While appearing on Imus in the Morning on Thursday and discussing his recent weight loss, Huckabee told Imus:
"I have just come from six weeks at a concentration camp held by the Democrat party of Arkansas in an undisclosed location, making a hostage tape. That's why I look that way."
Seriously, we can't make this stuff up. Watch it for yourself!
The AP asked Huckabee about it today. Rather than apologize, Huckabee called NJDC concerns "laughable."
Before shooting his mouth off, perhaps Governor Huckabee ought to think about the people who he might offend with such insensitive words. At the very least, he owes all of us an apology and explanation for his tasteless comments.
I am an Arkansan, a Democrat and am Jewish. After mulling over this matter for a few days I still for the life of me can't see what Goldenberg is all worked up about. I didn't think Huckabee's comment was out of line. When it comes to concentration camps, we Jews don't have a monopoly on victimhood, as I'm sure lots of Catholics, Gypsies and Gays of the WWII era, and prisoners today in Gitmo would tell you.
At a more practical level, do you think you're doing any of us Jewish Democrat Arkies any favor with hypersensitive reactions like that? Let that one go and get on to serious matters.
