NJDC first wrote about the problems of Republican Congressman Mark Kirk two weeks ago. This Chicago Jewish News story shows that, unfortunately for Kirk, people are paying attention.
Amid intense pressure after a former federal judge and White House counsel called for a federal and state investigation into a threatening e-mail sent by a staffer to Republican Congressman Mark Kirk (IL) to a Tel Aviv University official, Mark Kirk isn't talking - even to the Chicago Jewish News.
CJN is reporting that the Kirk Scandal is impacting the race:
With the election just days away, the race for the 10th District seat in the U.S. House has become more volatile than ever after the revelation that a staffer for Republican Rep. Mark Kirk tried to force Chicago Jewish community leader Robert Schrayer to drop his support for Kirk's opponent, Dan Seals, a Democrat.
Seals has told Chicago North Shore voters that he would have fired the staffer immediately.
The story continued to gain momentum as Seals held a press conference about the matter. "It's all about accountability in government," he said. A spokesperson for his campaign said, "If somebody on Dan's staff did something like this, Dan would fire them immediately."
Kirk didn't defend himself in the story. In fact, according the CJN, "Repeated calls by the Chicago Jewish News to Kirk's office were not returned."
Threats, blackmail, refusing to return press calls? Sounds like another scandal-plagued Republican campaign to me.
