NJDC today denounced a Republican flier filled with thinly veiled anti-Semitism and paid for by Michael Steele supporter Emma Jean Thompson. NJDC called on Steele and Maryland Republicans to condemn the flier which reads:
Ben Cardin Promises to attack Jesus Christ, Pastors, Churches and Christians and to Take Away Black's Freedom If He Is Elected.
NJDC also called on Steele to reject Thompson's endorsement which was received at a press conference with Steele yesterday - the same day the flier appeared in Prince George's County.
"This is an absolutely despicable piece of literature put together by a Michael Steele supporter who sees the writing on the wall. The mere suggestion that Ben Cardin is racist and anti-Christian is offensive and false. Most troubling is that the piece seems to be thinly veiled anti-Semitism and attacks the strong coalition between blacks and Jews in Maryland which has been so important over the years to people like Ben Cardin and Baltimore Congressman Elijah Cummings," said NJDC Executive Director Ira Forman.
"The responsible thing for Michael Steele to do is to trash this garbage and reject this woman's endorsement. Yet he has done nothing but provide a silent nod of approval. Shame on him and shame on those who are willing to use race as a dangerous political weapon."
The link is broken to the anti-semitic flier handed out by M Steele supportors at the polls. It you still have the flier, it is important to fix the link. A lot of people deny what a dirty campaign Steele ran and he will try to run again. Thanks
